The Timotesubani Virgin Mary Monastery was built by Shalva Eristavt-Eristavi Akhaltsikheli in the XII-XIII centuries in the Timotesubani village. The complex comprises a series of structures that were built between the 11th and 18th centuries. Among them the Church of the Dormition is the largest and artistically the most elegant edifice that was constructed during the “Golden Age” of medieval Georgia under the rule of Queen Tamar (r. 1184-1213).
