Saghmossavank, Amberd & Gyumri Day Tour From Dilijan

Start this day by visiting the Saghmossavank Monastery located at the gorge of the Kasakh river and the 7th century medieval fortress Amberd which is located on the slopes of Mountain Aragats. The site had been inhabited by the Urartians in ancient times, but the medieval fortress was constructed as a defense against invading Arab armies in the 7th and 8th AD. After Amberd, continue the road to Gyumri – the second largest city in Armenia. The city is home to many historical museums, such as Dzitoghtsyan Museum of Folk Life and National Architecture. Housed in a 19th century historical building, the museum contains collections related to both history and the everyday-life of the city, as well as paintings and other works of art. The tour around the city includes the Cathedral of the Holy Mother of God of Gyumri which is a 19th-century church, known as the Cathedral of the Seven Wounds of the Holy Mother of God. After lunch, return to Dilijan.
